New Doll, New Direction

Wow, it has been way too long since my last blog entry.

(Dusts website off)

A lot has happened over the last year – yes it’s been almost a year since my last post (yikes!!). Mostly lots of stressful stuff regarding my family, our home, and our personal finances – and all of that stress has made it difficult to find as much time as I used to for doll making, let alone blogging. But I’m here now to say hello!! Continue reading “New Doll, New Direction”

Finding My Way

Finding My Way

(Here’s a peak at what I’ve been working on: practicing some new techniques and experimenting with a new style)

I apologize for my silence as of late – I promise I haven’t disappeared!! Summer is always a busy time of year for my family – lots of camping, bbq’s, zoo days and the like – and I find it very hard to stay focused on my work. In addition to that I’ve had a lot on my mind lately.

Evolution of the Dark Manor Doll

Doll Evolution

That title seems so lofty and stuff, but it’s honestly the best way to describe what I’ve been thinking about. I’ve been looking back a lot lately. At all my work over the past year – it’s been about a year and a half since I started sculpting – and the changes and progress I see in my work are so encouraging. And important. I think the only way to become great at something is to never be completely satisfied with what you’ve created. You’ve got to always be pushing yourself to make something even better each time. Happy New Year – Looking Back, Looking Forward

Well, today is the first day of the new year and I have to say I am really excited for what 2015 has in store. I’m not a fan of new year’s resolutions, but I do like to set myself some goals each new year, along with plans to meet those goals. Before I set any goals, though, I always like to spend some time reflecting on the last year. This last year was probably the hardest yet for me personally, but a lot of good also happened this year: Continue reading “Happy New Year – Looking Back, Looking Forward”

The Importance of Sketching

IMG_20141125_170554There’s something that’s been on my mind a lot lately. Sketching. And the importance of it. You see, here’s the thing – as an artist or someone who is creative in any capacity it is in our nature to take in all that we see and hear, all the things we are surrounded by and allow those things to effect us. To influence us. To influence our art. It’s impossible not to be influenced by the things around us. Which isn’t at all a bad thing. In fact, I think it’s extremely important to surround yourself with things that you find beautiful, people whom you admire and respect, visit places that give you inspiration. But inspiration in and of itself, in all it’s many facets, needs a translation. Continue reading “The Importance of Sketching”
